Modified Puppy Chow

almondsJust because Valentine’s Day is over doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate with a little chocolate. This modified Puppy Chow recipe is sure to steal your heart!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup smooth peanut butter
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 4 cups plain, unsalted almonds
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar

Directions

Melt the peanut butter and chocolate in a large microwave safe bowl. Start at 30 seconds and then add time in incremends of 15 seconds until it is melted and smooth.

Add almonds to the peanut butter chocolate mixture. Combine until all almonds are well coated.

Add the almonds and powdered sugar to a gallon sized plastic bag and shake well until all of the almonds are coated.

Lay the almonds on parchment paper or a cookie sheet to dry.

 

Makes 16 (¼ cup) servings

Calories 300; Fat 24 grams; Saturated fat 4 grams; Carbohydrates 24 grams; Fiber 5 grams; Protein 10 grams

Please keep in mind the portion size.  Also, the majority of the fat is coming from unsaturated fat from the almonds.  Most candy bars might give you a similar amount of calories, but more saturated fat, less or no fiber, and less protein.  All foods can fit as long as you keep your individual food plan in mind and maintain awareness of portion sizes.
