The Wonderful Benefits of Fruit

July 3, 2012

AvocadoSummer is here! The temperature’s rising and the humidity is back. What better way to cool down than to bite into a sweet and juicy piece of fruit. What wonderful benefits are you getting from the variety of fruits you choose? The answers are endless.

  • Those sweet plum cherries are full of dietary fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants to help with your digestion and fight against diseases. The tarter the cherry, the more antioxidants.
  • Two medium kiwifruits can have as much potassium as one medium banana as well as a healthy amount of vitamin C and fiber. It may be fuzzy, but eating a well rinsed kiwifruit peel along with the green interior will only increase the amount of nutrients consumed.
  • Rather raw, cooked, red, green or yellow, an apple is always a quick, juicy and nutritious snack to grab when running out the door. Try keeping a bowl of fruit such as apples and pears on your kitchen table instead of candy or nuts. You will be more likely to go for the apple when hungry than peering through the cupboards for processed sweets.
  • Avocados have more fat and calories than most fruits but they are still a nutritious addition to a salad or sandwich. Add avocado instead of butter on your toast or in place of mayo on your sandwich. A good source of Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B6, avocados are a unique fruit to introduce to your diet if you haven’t yet.
