Eat Right on a Budget

October 27, 2011

Eating right can be affordable, convenient and nutritious with a small amount of advanced planning. Here are a few tips about saving time and money when at the grocery store:

  • Feed your stomach before shopping. Shopping on an empty stomach will cause nothing but buyer's remorse.
  • Work the perimeter. Most foods for a healthy and cost-conscious eating plan can be found by shopping the supermarket's boundaries. This includes fruits and vegetables, lean meats and fish, low-fat cheeses and dairy, and whole grains.
  • Make and stick to a shopping list. If you keep a running list at home of items that need to be replaced, you won't have to worry about forgetting anything.
  • Check for supermarket specials printed in the newspaper or online and plan your shopping trip around what is on sale.
