Rethink Your Drink

September 11, 2013

Calories in drinks are not hidden (they’re listed right on the label), but many people don’t realize just how many calories beverages can contribute to their daily intake. Calories from drinks can really add up.

Instead of reaching for soda or juice, try this flavored water from KishHealth System’s healthy culinary instructor, Jo Cessna.

Lemon Basil Water

The refreshing bite of citrus and the herbal essence of basil infuse new life into water and will have your family or guests reaching for a second glass of hydrating goodness.

By putting this fresh twist on a plain glass of water, Jo Cessna, healthy culinary instructor, proves that ordinary H2O can be far from boring.

Ingredients

2 quarts of filtered water

2 lemons, thinly sliced

Basil leaves, generous handful – washed and torn into flakes

Instructions

Combine ingredients in a pitcher and allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Sip to test the flavor, and add more water to dilute if necessary. Refrigerate the mixture for up to three days, diluting as needed.
