Fit Fest Set May 17

Celebrate National Employee Health and Fitness Day Wednesday, May 17, at Fit Fest 2006, sponsored by the Kishwaukee Family YMCA and Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, a department of Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

Walkers may navigate the noncompetitive course between 4 and 6 p.m. Area businesses with the highest percentage of participants will receive traveling trophies.

Corporate sponsors for the event include American National Bank of DeKalb County, B-95 WDKB-FM, Castle Bank, Midwest Refinishing, Oak Crest Retirement Center, The Daily Chronicle, Resource Bank, and National Bank and Trust Co. of Sycamore.

The 1.1 mile level, picturesque and handicap accessible course begins at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, continues to Oak Crest Retirement Center, through the neighborhood just west of the hospital and ends at KCH. In the event of bad weather, the walk will be held at the YMCA. Strollers and bikes and are welcome at the family friendly event.

Nutritious snacks and wellness screenings will be offered to participants at the event. Screenings are provided by DeKalb County Health Department, Kishwaukee Family YMCA, and Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.

Early registration fee of $5. is due Wednesday, May 3, and assures a T-shirt on the day of the event. Children must be registered in order to receive a T-shirt. Late registration is available until 5:30 p.m. on walk day at a cost of $7,with T-shirts available at the YMCA at a later date.

The YMCA will also celebrate National Employee Health and Fitness Day by sponsoring an open house. Community members are encouraged to use the facilities free of charge on May 17 from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Please call the YMCA for the pool schedule.
