New mom Elisa Trevino made it to Kishwaukee Community Hospital with very little time to spare.

She was in labor with her daughter when she arrived at her local hospital in Rochelle. Elisa recognized her quickly progressing labor from her previous history of a rapid delivery.

Rochelle Community Hospital doesn’t have obstetrical services, so they arranged to have Trevino airlifted to KCH where she delivered the baby only minutes after arriving.

Experienced nurses immediately delivered the baby while her obstetrician Joseph Baumgart hurried over to the hospital, arriving shortly after delivery. "Helicopter transfer for this mom and baby was essential, the quick response by Rochelle Community Hospital was critical, and our staff was expertly prepared and ready when the patient arrived," said OB Director Heidi Lindhorst.

Experienced obstetrical and neonatal nurses Cathy Musil, RNC, Beth Post, RNC, and Jackie Mascenic, RNC, handled the delivery safely and calmly. They had prepared everything necessary for the delivery prior to the helicopter’s arrival.

“These experienced nurses handled everything very well. They acted as role models for new staff, and they even used the circumstances as a method of educating an EMT present for the event. I am proud of everyone involved,” said Lindhorst.
