KCH Auxiliary and Kishwaukee Health Foundation Scholarships Awarded

The Kishwaukee Community Hospital Auxiliary and Kishwaukee Health Foundation have awarded over $25,000 in scholarships to area College students pursuing healthcare careers.

Tara Kersten was awarded the James J. Feeney, MD, Memorial Scholarship and the KCH Physician’s Medical Education Scholarship, both administered by the Kishwaukee Health Foundation. Kersten is pursing a Medical Doctor degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Two recipients were chosen to receive the Floann and Hallie Hamilton Diagnostic Imaging Scholarship, Dorothy Roethlisberger and Christine Hadley. Both Roethlisberger and Hadley are pursing Radiologic Technology degrees at Kishwaukee College. This scholarship is administered by the Kishwaukee Health Foundation.

Two recipients were also chosen for the Virginia Larsen Scholarship. Laurie Chapman is pursuing a degree in nursing at Kishwaukee College. The other recipient, Mary Bend is also a Kishwaukee College student pursing a degree in nursing. Larsen, of Sycamore, a longtime KCH volunteer, is past president of the KCH Auxiliary and a former registered nurse. She has established the annual scholarship to recognize a student who not only demonstrates strong scholastic achievement but also a desire to be compassionate and caring toward patients. This scholarship is administered by the KCH Auxiliary.

The Auxiliary's general healthcare scholarships are awarded to DeKalb County residents and are renewable. Proceeds from the annual ball were used to fund this year’s Auxiliary scholarships.

This year's recipients are Stephanie Anda, Aurora University, B.S. Nursing; Leah Brown, NIU, Dietetics; Rebecca Burgess, NIU, Clinical Lab Science; Marc Gorski, University of Iowa, Pharmacy; Kelly Greene, NIU, BS Nursing; Christine Hadley, Kishwaukee College, Radiologic Technology.

Also, Lauretta Hanson, Kishwaukee College, Registered Nurse; Tiffany Kerber, NIU, BS Nursing; Tara Kersten, Medical College of Wisconsin/Milwaukee, Medical Doctor; Jenna Kim, University of Illinois, Medical Doctor; Jennifer Lavoie, Kishwaukee College, Registered Nurse; Rebekah Lawrence, Saint Ambrose University, Doctor of Physical Therapy; Kelly Shugrue, Kishwaukee College, Radiologic Technology; Elizabeth Stephenson, NIU, Physical Therapy; and Jami Van Cleve, Aurora University, B.S. Nursing.
