Fire in Parking Area at KCH

May 14, 2008

At approximately 11:45am, a pick-up truck caught on fire in the physician parking area at Kishwaukee Community Hospital. An independent asphalt company was working on repairs to the parking area when their truck started on fire. The parking area is on the southwest corner of the building.  Portions of patient-care areas on that side of the building, including the Center for Behavioral Health, Intensive Care, Maternity Suites, Radiology and Emergency Department were evacuated to other areas of the building as a precautionary measure. Patient care was not interrupted and all involved patients tolerated the temporary move very well. The KCH engineering and maintenance staff secured the area and monitored building equipment and utilities to maintain building safety.

The fire did not travel away from the parking area, and caused no damage to the hospital building.  The fire department is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. Two vehicles sustained minor damage and one vehicle was towed from the scene.
