Voluntary Action Center Using Old Hospital's Kitchen

August 20, 2008

The Voluntary Action Center is using the old Kishwaukee Community Hospital building’s kitchen to assemble meals for summer camps and other nearby community agencies.  In an effort to help families stretch their dollars, summer camps are taking advantage of the program, which is an off-shoot of the free and reduced lunch program, when previously campers were required to bring their own lunches.

Some of the local organizations taking advantage of this opportunity are the DeKalb Park District, the YMCA, Mason Court Apartments, Emmanuel Lutheran Church with NIU’s Center for Black Studies, and DeKalb Sycamore Association of Special Recreation’s Camp Maple Leaf.  For more information call Ellen Rogers, Assistant Director of the Voluntary Action Center, at 815.758.5703.
