The Pink Ribbon Golf Outing at Indian Oaks Country Club,
Shabbona, raises money each year for breast cancer prevention
and awareness.

Kishwaukee Health Foundation recently received a generous donation from the 8th Annual Pink Ribbon Golf Outing, an annual breast cancer fundraising event at Indian Oaks County Club, Shabbona. Money raised from last year’s event benefited oncology services at Valley West Community Hospital, Sandwich, and Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.

The donated money was used to continue the health system’s pursuit of breast cancer prevention and awareness by sending a nurse from Valley West to the MammaCare Breast Self Examination Training, who can now train others in the area in this valuable skill; it was also used to purchase breast exam models; and some of the funds were designated to help women purchase breast prosthesis following a mastectomy.

The Pink Ribbon Golf Outing is an annual event scheduled each year on the third Thursday of July.

Anita O’Bryan, manager at Indian Oaks Country Club, is pleased that the money raised can be used for a local cause for friends and neighbors in the surrounding communities.

According to Renee Ellingson, Kishwaukee Health Foundation’s executive director, “We are so grateful for the funds that the Pink Ribbon Golf Outing Committee donated to our hospital’s oncology services. The MammaCare training, breast exam models and the ability for us to help our patients purchase breast prostheses would not be possible without their wonderful gift. Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness.”

Deb Bemis, director of Oncology Services at Kishwaukee and Valley West Community Hospitals, said, “The donation has shown a dedication to promote breast health through breast self-exam education and help women in the community with breast cancer.”

With the help of philanthropy, Kishwaukee Health Foundation assists KishHealth System in providing quality programs and services at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Valley West Community Hospital, and DeKalb County Hospice. Donations enable the Health Foundation to bring to our area enhanced technology, services, and new programs that would not be possible without the generous help of donors.
