February 02, 2010

Valley West Community Hospital is pleased to announce the promotion of Cindy Fox RN, a trauma nurse specialist, as the new Emergency department manager. Valley West Community Hospital, part of the KishHealth System, offers comprehensive emergency care, staffed with highly-trained nurses and board-certified emergency physicians 24 hours a day. As manager, Fox will be working closely with and under the direction of Cindy Graves RN, BS, CEN and KishHealth System Director of Emergency Services.

Previously a hospital supervisor for Valley West, Fox received the 2009 Pamela Lewis Nurse of the Year award.  “Cindy Fox demonstrates nursing excellence in every aspect of her work,” said Pam Duffy, Vice President of Patient Care Services. “She is a professional, peer, and mentor, and will be a valuable asset to the Valley West emergency department,” Duffy said.

Fox began her professional nursing career in 1991, as a graduate of Waubonsee Community College, and immediately started work at Sandwich Community Hospital on the medical/surgical unit. Family needs dictated a change of hours and she began work as a home health nurse for the LaSalle County Health Department. Recognizing that taking care of acutely ill patients was her true calling; she joined the Kishwaukee Community Hospital team in 1996, as a surgical nurse. After a brief period as an office nurse, she returned to the KishHealth System as a nursing supervisor at Valley West Community Hospital in 2003.

Fox recently obtained Trauma Nurse Specialist certification and entered into a bachelor’s completion program last spring. As part of her new position at Valley West, Fox is excited to grow with the hospital and the community.

Valley West Community Hospital recently completed a  $6.5 million, 12,000 square-foot addition and renovation project that expanded the Emergency Department’s patient treatment areas  Two more operating rooms, six day surgery rooms and a new recovery suite, and two new labor/delivery /recovery/post-partum maternity suites also were added. “The recent expansion is a testament Valley West’s ongoing commitment to the community and the people that live here,” says Fox.
