Birthday Gift Benefits Kishwaukee Health Foundation

April 29, 2010

Mary Lou Schaeffer received a wonderful birthday gift from her husband Norm and their family a patient room at Kishwaukee Community Hospital! Who knew you can shop for a gift at Kishwaukee Health Foundation? A plaque was placed on a patient room at Kish Hospital honoring Mary Lou.

Norm and family wanted to honor Mary Lou with a very special gift that represents her dedication to nursing and education and their support for KishHealth System. Mary Lou was a nurse for 10 years after 20 years of teaching.  Her work in nursing took place at the DeKalb County Nursing Home and NIU Health Services.  As a teacher she worked in several towns including DeKalb, Hinckley, East Aurora, Mendota and Marengo. Mary Lou has been a volunteer at Kish Hospital for over 20 years and Norm has been a volunteer for 9 years.

Norm and Mary Lou of DeKalb are also very thankful to the doctors and staff at Kish Hospital.  Norm had two very serious illnesses that were treated at Kish Hospital.  Not only did the expertise and skill of our physicians and staff save his life but he was able to stay close to home for the care he needed.  This allowed Mary Lou and his family to visit with him without having to travel out of town.

Norm and Mary Lou chose to have their generous gift support the KHF Unrestricted Endowment fund, Cancer Care Services fund, KishHealth Services Nursing Development fund and the Community Cares Clinic fund.

On behalf of Kishwaukee Health Foundation and KishHealth System, we thank Norm & Mary Lou Schaeffer and family for their generosity and commitment to healthcare in our community and for allowing us to be a part of this very special gift.
