Cancer Center at Valley West Community Hospital

August 18, 2010

Valley West Community Hospital and Dr. Ramesh Kola are pleased to announce that his oncology practice, The Midwest Center for Cancer and Blood, formally became affiliated with Valley West Community Hospital and the KishHealth System and is now The  Cancer Center at Valley West Community Hospital.

The Cancer Center at Valley West serves communities in southern DeKalb county, and parts of Kendall and LaSalle counties. The center is able to provide medical oncology services comparable to those typically found in larger centers and has an onsite infusion suite for administration of chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications, as well as an onsite pharmacy. A laboratory is also onsite for testing, and like the hospital, uses Mayo Clinic Laboratories when more advanced pathology services are needed. “We’re also paperless,” says Dr. Kola. “That isn’t often found in a facility of our size.”

“We are very happy to offer these cancer services to the surrounding communities as part of Valley West Community Hospital,” says Deb Bemis MSN, RN, NE-BC, KishHealth System Director of Oncology Services. “The Cancer Center at Valley West, as well as its sister facility, the Cancer Center at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, are able to offer patients an incredible array of services without having to drive too far from home.”

Board certified in oncology, hematology and internal medicine, Dr. Kola has been on the Valley West medical staff for five years and is currently transitioning into a new leadership role as Medical Director of Oncology Services at Valley West. As medical director he will have a greater role in helping to expand cancer care services in the health system. He has practiced in the Fox Valley area for 20 years. Dr. Kola continues to see and treat patients in Sandwich and Aurora, as well as remain active on the medical staffs of other area hospitals.

“This affiliation with the KishHealth System is great for area patients. The close proximity to home and the capabilities offered through Valley West allow us to focus on care and treatment,” says Dr. Kola. “We’re able to offer incredibly high levels of care not often found in smaller communities.”
