Valley West Annual Wellness Fair

June 13, 2012

2012 Wellness Fair

Valley West Community Hospital Wellness Fair is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, from 10 am – 2 pm. An annual event, the Valley West Wellness Fair is designed to share health, safety and wellness information with Sandwich and surrounding communities. The Wellness Fair is open to the public with no admission charge and free parking.

“Because of the holiday in the middle of the week, we took the opportunity to move our event from the week to the weekend,” says Allison Bryan, Public Relations Coordinator. “We’re hoping this will allow even more people to attend than in previous years.”

This year’s theme is: Be a Champion of your Health, and features five Olympic-style events for participants of all ages and fitness levels to compete in. To complement the focus and the fair atmosphere, interactive activities, give-a-ways and product demonstrations by vendors is common. Dave Frieders of 107.1 FM WSPY will be doing a live broadcast during the event as well.

At the Wellness Fair, the public will have access to numerous vendors and exhibitors in the health and safety field, including many hospital departments and services. The Wellness Fair features activities for adults and children, including: chair massage, skin care analysis, face painting/tattoos, fall prevention screening, basketball, body fat testing, oral cancer screening, spine micro vision scans, glucose screening (2 hour fast recommended), and vision and hearing screening (courtesy of Sandwich & Somonauk Lions Club).

The five Olympic-style events are Nutrition Shot Put, Dunk Tank, Wacky Trike Race, Fun Derby Horse Races and Potato Sack Races. Everyone who participates in an event will receive a participation ribbon, and those who collect three or more ribbons will receive a Champion of Your Health medal.

In addition to vendor booths and activities, there will also be healthy snacks and a commemorative photo booth (courtesy of Smile Awhile Photo Booth). Valley West Community Hospital will provide bags for children and adults.
