New Hospital Rooms Open

New Hospital Rooms Open
Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s new Emergency Department and Maternity Suites rooms opened Thursday, Aug. 9, about three months ahead of schedule due to a warm winter. Construction began in December.

“We are delighted to get this addition open earlier than expected to improve patient flow and privacy especially during times of high volume,” said Sharon Emanuelson, KishHealth System marketing and public relations director.

The Illinois Department of Public Health inspected the new rooms Wednesday, Aug. 8, and approved them for occupancy.

The ER expansion provides eight additional private treatment rooms, creating more space to facilitate timely patient care. A feature of the new space is a shower in the patient restroom.

Four of the new rooms will be used for the ER’s Fast Track system. Appropriate patients are put into Fast Track after their condition is evaluated by a triage nurse. Fast Track patients typically have minor injuries and illnesses.

The second floor Maternity Suites addition includes four patient rooms and an operating room primarily for C-sections. The four new rooms will accommodate moms and babies after delivery.
