Main Laboratory at Kishwaukee Community Hospital Receives Accreditation

April 11, 2013

Krishna P. Reddy, MD, MBADeKALB, IL—Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s main laboratory has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The facility’s director, Krishna P. Reddy, MD, MBA, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. Kish Hospital’s main lab is one of more than 7,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

“Our lab has had its first CAP accreditation in 1978. The accreditations run on a two-year cycles. We have been fortunate to have dedicated staff, supportive administration, and committed medical staff,” said Krishna Reddy, MD, medical director of Pathology and Clinical Laboratory at Kish Hospital. “I have always felt that having a strong lab and pathology department serves the needs of our patients and medical staff. The most important principle is that patients deserve a right diagnosis; and in my opinion, lab is always there in fulfilling the goals of the hospital and the community.”
