KishHealth System’s Valley West Hospital Receives Multiple Awards

SANDWICH, Ill. – Valley West Hospital has earned several awards so far in 2014. Beating out most urban hospitals, they received the “Most Wired of 2014” award along with Kishwaukee Hospital, for advancements in technology from the survey conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks.

Valley West received the distinction of being at the top of quality care for their patients when the Joint Commission awarded them as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®.  Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting specific performance standards. Valley West is one of 1,099 hospitals in the United States that achieve this accolade. Valley West was specifically commended for achievements in pneumonia and surgical care.

When compared to 70 other Chicago area hospitals, Valley West was named one the top picks in Illinois for patient safety by a popular consumer rating magazine; they tied one other hospital for the highest overall patient safety score. Valley West received its highest rankings in doctor-patient communication; nurse-patient communication; pain control; appropriate use of abdominal screening; appropriate use of chest scanning; and room quietness. Scores for avoiding readmissions; overall patient experience; help from hospital staff; room cleanliness; and use of electronic health records ranked above average.
