KishHealth System’s Valley West Hospital Finalizes Construction and Continues Innovation

November 21, 2014Valley West Hospital Finalizes Construction

SANDWICH, Ill. – The recent Valley West Hospital construction, including a new wing and the new Pleasant Avenue façade, is now complete. Facility upgrades to improve the building’s services, access, and aesthetics, began in 2012 and include a new intensive care unit, new patient rooms, a physical therapy suite to support the hospital’s growing orthopedic programs, a gift shop, and registration and information areas. The last phase of the project entailed creating space inside the hospital to house a brand new, state-of-the-art large bore MRI.

The large bore MRI machine has the same image quality as the traditional MRI as well as the ability to accommodate a larger weight capacity; the large bore reduces claustrophobia increasing the comfort of the patient and is the quietest scanning environment available. It is also softly lit which creates a calming atmosphere to relieve patient anxiety. Valley West Hospital brings a great value to the community with the ability for patients to utilize this machine, by eliminating the need to drive at least 30 minutes to the next closest facility with this type of diagnostic imaging.  The new addition will support ease of access to MRI services because the machine requires less downtime between scans. With the new MRI machine, KishHealth System is also providing a partnership with Midwest Orthopedic Institute. Housing this MRI machine at Valley West Hospital allows all patients in this area, as well as any patient of MOI, to stay within close proximity for their diagnostic imaging as well as surgical services.

Dave Proulx, assistant vice president of Valley West Hospital Operations, KishHealth System Laboratories and Facilities, said, “We have tried to utilize local companies and workers to complete the construction project whenever possible; they are the ones that will be using this facility for their care.”
