Scholarships Available for Students Pursuing Healthcare and Nutrition Careers

DeKALB, Ill.—KishHealth System, now part of Northwestern Medicine, offers several scholarships each year for DeKalb County residents pursuing healthcare studies. Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary, Valley West Hospital Auxiliary, and the KishHealth System Foundation are accepting applications for their 2016-2017 scholarship opportunities. Scholarships are offered for students pursuing careers in healthcare studies, including nursing, radiology, pre-med, medical, and ancillary health services professions, and also those pursuing nutrition studies.

Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary

The Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary offers three scholarships: the Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship, the Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary Margaret Travis Scholarship for Nutrition Studies, and the Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary Basic Nurse Assistant Program Scholarship.

The Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary offers scholarships to residents of DeKalb County who are enrolled in a college-level health-related program. The recipient’s legal address must be DeKalb, Sycamore, Cortland, Genoa, Kingston, Kirkland, Malta, Sandwich, Somonauk, or Waterman.

Valley West Hospital Auxiliary

The Valley West Auxiliary offers scholarships to any student who lives in a community served by Valley West Hospital. This includes Earlville, Sandwich, Plano, Somonauk, Leland, Yorkville, Bristol, Sheridan, Serena, Newark, Millington, Millbrook, Big Rock, Hinckley, and Waterman. The student must be a high school graduate and show proof of acceptance into a post-secondary health-related program.

Application forms, transcripts, and test scores must be completed and returned by June 1, 2016, for the subsequent fall semester. KishHealth System Foundation

The KishHealth System Foundation maintains three scholarships for students pursuing degrees in medicine and diagnostic imaging and encourages donations to these funds. If you'd like to donate to the funds below, please contact the KishHealth System Foundation at 815.748.9954.

Floann and Hallie Hamilton Diagnostic Imaging Scholarship

Each applicant must be a DeKalb County resident and must have been accepted into a college diagnostic imaging curriculum. The Hamilton scholarship was established by Floann and Hallie Hamilton, long-time Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary volunteers.

KishHealth System Foundation, James J. Feeney, MD, Memorial Scholarship

Each applicant must be a DeKalb County resident currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited medical school curriculum or have been accepted into a college level pre-medical curriculum as a full-time student. The Feeney scholarship was established by Dr. Feeney’s widow and daughters.

Kishwaukee Hospital Physicians’ Medical Education Scholarship

Each applicant must be a DeKalb County resident currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited medical school curriculum. The Kishwaukee Hospital Physicians’ scholarship was created in 2004 by Photine Liakos, MD, to assist and encourage young people to join the medical and ancillary health services professions. The scholarship is funded by donations from local physicians.
