May 23, 2017

Northwestern Medicine Ben Gordon Center Receives GrantNorthwestern Medicine Ben Gordon Center was the recipient of the DeKalb County Community Foundation’s Community Needs Grant. The $20,000 grant will be used to update the interior space of the facility and will contribute to the Therapeutic Environment Project. The Therapeutic Environment Project is intended to create a physical space that mirrors the healing and recovery oriented services that Ben Gordon Center provides. Northwestern Medicine Ben Gordon Center wants to make a positive first impression and create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and friends.

“Stemming from the belief that it takes just three seconds for someone to register a negative impression, the design of a mental health facility has a direct impact on the beliefs, expectations, and perceptions our clients have about themselves, the staff, and the care they will receive,” said Kim Volk, director of Northwestern Medicine Behavioral Health Services. “Thank you to the DeKalb County Community Foundation for providing these funds.”
