Ben Gordon Center The Living Room

An acute crisis respite program for adults, the Living Room with Ben Gordon Center is a comfortable, non-clinical space for individuals experiencing overwhelming symptoms due to life circumstances. The goal of the program is to provide a calm and safe environment in which guests can resolve crises without more intensive intervention.

Our caring Living Room staff members utilize crisis intervention and stabilization services, provide linkage to community resources, and make appropriate referrals when the individual’s crisis cannot be resolved by the Living Room.

What to Expect

The Living Room is housed at the Community Support Program (CSP). The Living Room was developed as a program for individuals who are experiencing a crisis to help them resolve or better manage it.

Any individual 18 years of age and older, who is a DeKalb County resident, may utilize these services free of cost and without being a registered client.

The Living Room offers:

  • Crisis intervention
  • Safety planning
  • A safe non-judgmental space
  • Support from trained peer counselors (certified recovery support specialists), licensed clinicians, case managers, and registered nurses
  • Assistance with problem solving
  • Linkage with referrals for emergency housing, healthcare, and food
  • Healthy refreshments
  • Follow-up services

These services are provided on a walk-in basis.

* Funding provided in whole or in part by the Illinois Department of Human Services.
