KishHealth System understands the physical and emotional toll cancer has on patients, caregivers, and family members. To support you and your loved ones during your cancer treatment, the Cancer Centers in DeKalb and Sandwich offer a number of support services.

Nurse Patient Navigator

Our patient navigators coordinate care for our breast, gynecologic, lung, and head and neck cancer patients by working closely with radiologists, pathologists, and physicians to provide seamless communication. Your patient navigator will:

  • Stay in touch with you during your initial diagnosis, staging, and initiation of cancer treatment
  • Coordinate appointments for follow-up and referral to ensure timely initiation of treatment
  • Assist in eliminating barriers to care
  • Schedule a multidisciplinary consultation clinic as needed
  • Facilitate referrals to Loyola specialists, when appropriate

The Image Center

The Image Center provides women going through cancer treatment the opportunity to look and feel more like themselves. Lehan Drugs Women’s Health Department in DeKalb provides the following services:

  • Mastectomy bras
  • Post-surgical camisoles
  • Sleep wear and active wear
  • Accessories
  • Post-mastectomy education and fittings
  • Education on skin products

Resource Library

You will have many questions about your diagnosis and cancer treatment. For your convenience, a computer with Internet access is available to patients and their families along with a library of publications from the American Cancer Society.

Massage Therapy

Cancer patients receive one free 30-minute massage at the Cancer Center in DeKalb or at the KishHealth System Physical Therapy Center in Sycamore.

Oncology Dietitian

A registered dietitian on the Cancer Center staff specializes in oncology nutrition. She provides individual and family consultations, education on healthy eating, and food demonstrations with samples for patients and visitors to enjoy.

Oncology Pharmacist

Our board-certified oncology pharmacist collaborates with the healthcare team and reviews all chemotherapy orders to ensure safe and proper dosing. The oncology pharmacist checks for drug interactions, monitors for side effects, and provides recommendations for anti-nausea medications.

All medications are mixed specifically for each patient in the Cancer Center's clean room using the aseptic technique for maximum safety.

Oncology Social Worker

A licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) on staff specializes in working with cancer patients. She serves as an advocate and resource, helping patients meet their needs and goals throughout cancer treatment. The LCSW on staff at KishHealth System:

  • Assists with financial needs and insurance issues such as understanding Medicare, Medicaid, and other healthcare plan options and identifying financial assistance programs
  • Provides information on coping with cancer and survivorship
  • Provides individualized, couple, family, and group counseling services
  • Facilitates support programs for patients, children, family members, and significant others
  • Links patients and families to local community agencies and support programs

Physical Therapy

A KishHealth System Physical Therapist visits new cancer patients to provide education and assess for physical needs related to ROM and lymphedema, and provides survivor education on exercise to combat fatigue.
