Hospice Professionals on a Mission to Serve Veterans in DeKalb County

Today, one in four dying Americans is a veteran. These men and women often carry experiences from their military service that present unique challenges for end-of-life care.

As part of a contract with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, KishHealth System Hospice has joined National Hospice and Palliative Care’s new project to empower hospice professionals to meet the unique needs of dying veterans. The program teaches hospice care professionals to comfort patients with a history of military service and possible physical or psychological trauma through:

  • Respectful inquiry
  • Compassionate listening
  • Grateful acknowledgement

KishHealth Hospice will be developing new programs to reach out to the veterans in our service area. You can also visit www.wehonorveterans.org to learn more about this timely initiative.
